In a major step towards improving resilience and service continuity, the Goods and Services Tax Network (GSTN) has announced the rollout of the E-Way Bill 2.0 portal [https://ewaybill2.gst.gov.in], developed by the National Informatics Centre (NIC), effective from 1st July 2025.
This revamped portal introduces enhanced inter-operability between the existing E-Way Bill 1.0 portal [https://ewaybillgst.gov.in] and the new 2.0 system, ensuring uninterrupted functionality even during technical disruptions.
Objective: Seamless Continuity, Even During Downtime
The E-Way Bill 2.0 system is a response to stakeholder feedback and operational challenges. Its goal is to offer uninterrupted access to core E-Way Bill services, especially during downtimes or technical issues with the main portal.
With real-time synchronisation and mirrored data architecture, users can now experience faster, more reliable access across both portals.
New Inter-Operable Services Introduced
Starting 1st July, taxpayers and transporters can use the E-Way Bill 2.0 portal to perform the following operations, regardless of where the original E-Way Bill was generated (either 1.0 or 2.0):
- ✅ Generation of E-Way Bill from Part-A details entered by the supplier
- ✅ Creation of Consolidated E-Way Bills
- ✅ Extension of E-Way Bill validity
- ✅ Updating transporter details
- ✅ Retrieval of Consolidated E-Way Bills
These features are in addition to the already cross-functional capabilities such as:
- E-Way Bill generation
- Updating vehicle details
- Printing of E-Way Bills
System Integration & Real-Time Sync
Here’s how GSTN is ensuring business continuity:
- Instant Sync: Both portals share E-Way Bill data in real-time, within seconds.
- Failover Ready: If one portal faces downtime (e.g., 1.0), operations like Part-B updates can still be done on the 2.0 portal.
- Dual-System Support: Reduces reliance on a single portal, helping businesses continue operations seamlessly.
API Access for Developers & Integrators
All functionalities of the new portal are also available via APIs, making it easier for ERP users and logistics providers to integrate and automate processes.
- The APIs are currently live on a sandbox environment for testing and adaptation.
- Full API deployment will follow after the official launch.
Key Benefits for Users
- Cross-portal operations fully enabled
- Business continuity during portal disruptions
- Faster operations and reduced system dependency
- Future-ready architecture to eventually consolidate all data into one unified system
What Should Taxpayers Do?
- Visit and explore the new E-Way Bill 2.0 Portal
- Start testing functionalities using sandbox APIs if you use ERP/integration systems
- Educate your transporters and logistics partners about the new updates
- Keep both portal credentials handy for failover flexibility
The launch of E-Way Bill 2.0 marks a significant stride in ensuring reliable, resilient, and real-time digital infrastructure for GST compliance. Businesses are advised to proactively engage with the new platform and leverage its capabilities for uninterrupted logistics and goods movement.
