The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT), under the powers conferred by Paragraph 1.03 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP), 2023, has notified three new Standard Input Output Norms (SIONs) under the Chemical & Allied Product Group.

These additions are aimed at standardizing and facilitating export authorizations for specific chemical formulations and ensuring a consistent input-output ratio under the Advance Authorisation Scheme.

New SIONs:
SION No.
Export Product
Qty.
Sl. No.
Import Item
Qty. Allowed

A-3690

Betamethasone Valerate EP/BP/USP

1 kg

1

Betamethasone

0.915 kg

A-3691

Ferrous Fumarate USP/BP/FCC/IP

1 kg

Fumaric Acid 99%

0.725 kg

A-3692

Ferrous Fumarate USP/BP/FCC/IP

1 kg

1

Maleic Anhydride

0.65 kg

These norms are now part of the SION database, enabling exporters to apply for Advance Authorisation based on predefined input-output ratios without the need for ad-hoc justification or self-declaration.

Sectoral Relevance

These SIONs are particularly relevant for exporters dealing in:

  • Pharmaceutical Ingredients (e.g., Betamethasone Valerate)
  • Nutraceutical Compounds (e.g., Ferrous Fumarate)
  • Bulk Drug Manufacturing and Allied Products

By formalizing these norms, DGFT has further simplified the compliance landscape for exporters in the chemical and pharma sectors, enhancing predictability and operational efficiency.

Effect of the Public Notice

“Three new SIONs for export products under Chemical & Allied Product Group are being notified.”

This means exporters can now:

    • Apply under Advance Authorisation using these new SIONs,
    • Avoid delays related to non-standard inputs,
    • Benefit from faster processing and reduced documentation burden.
