The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued a significant amendment under Chapter 71 of Schedule-I (Import Policy) of ITC (HS) 2022. This amendment relates to the import policy of specific precious metals—Palladium, Rhodium, and Iridium—especially when alloyed with gold.
This notification is issued under the powers conferred by Section 3 read with Section 5 of the Foreign Trade (Development & Regulation) Act, 1992, and paragraphs 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023, as amended from time to time.

Effect of the Notification
- General Policy: Import of pure/unalloyed Palladium, Rhodium, and Iridium remains Free.
- Conditional Restriction: If gold content exceeds 1% by weight in these alloys, import becomes Restricted.
What “Restricted” Means
Imports under the “Restricted” category require:
- A valid import license from DGFT.
- Possibly, additional scrutiny or declarations during customs clearance.
