The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), exercising its powers under Section 14(2) of the Customs Act, 1962, has issued a new notification amending Notification No. 36/2001-Customs (N.T.) dated 3rd August 2001, to revise the tariff values of various imported goods.

These amendments pertain to edible oils, brass scrap, precious metals (gold & silver), and areca nuts, and are intended to reflect international price movements and stabilise the domestic trade environment. The updated tariff values will be effective from 16th July 2025.

Key Points:
  1. Tariff Values Revised for key commodities, including:
  • Palm Oil and Palmolein
  • Soybean Oil
  • Brass Scrap
  • Gold and Silver
  • Areca Nuts
  1. No Change in the Tariff Value of Areca Nuts – remains at US$ 6970/MT
  2. Effective Date: These new tariff values come into effect from 16th July 2025.

(ii)              Gold coins having gold content not below 99.5% and gold findings, other than imports of such goods through post, courier or baggage.

Explanation.  – For the purposes of this entry, “gold findings” means a small component such as hook, clasp, clamp, pin, catch, screw back used to hold the whole or a part of a piece of Jewellery in place.
