The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) has highlighted concerns regarding the Standard Input Output Norms (SIONs) for food items. It has been observed that some SIONs contain generic input descriptions, while others do not specify the quantities of alternative inputs clearly. These gaps may create ambiguity, misinterpretation, or even misuse of the norms.

Why This Matters

Food items are sensitive in nature, and clarity in input-output norms is essential to maintain accuracy, transparency, and compliance. Recognizing this, Norms Committee-6 (NC-6) has initiated a comprehensive review of selected SIONs and related General Notes.

SIONs Under Review

The following food-related SIONs will be reviewed:
E-1, E-4, E-5, E-7, E-38, E-46, E-75, E-76, E-77, E-100, E-101, E-102, E-127, E-132, and E-133, along with associated General Notes.

Call for Stakeholder Participation

To ensure that the revised norms are clear, fair, and industry-aligned, DGFT has invited comments, suggestions, and feedback from:

  • Exporters

  • Importers

  • Industry associations

  • Other relevant stakeholders

Submission Details

Stakeholders are requested to share their views by sending an email to NC-VI at nc6.dgft@nic.in no later than 05th September 2025.

Key Takeaway

This initiative underscores DGFT’s commitment to transparent trade practices and the need for collaborative input from industry stakeholders in shaping clear and effective SIONs for food items.
